Hazardous Materials Assessments

EcoHazMat performs hazardous materials assessments to identify harmful building materials—primarily asbestos and lead—before any renovation, restoration, or demolition begins. Our process includes sample collection, lab analysis, and a comprehensive report detailing the presence and location of hazardous materials, including mercury, silica, and PCBs when applicable.

These assessments are required by WorkSafeBC regulations and often necessary to obtain building permits. They help protect workers, occupants, and the surrounding environment, while also supporting responsible risk management.

Property owners, managers, and employers are legally obligated to complete an assessment prior to any work that may disturb building materials. To get started, email us your site address, scope of work, and contact info—we’ll follow up to schedule your inspection.

Asbestos Inventories

An Asbestos Management Program is a structured system designed to prevent exposure to asbestos in the workplace. It outlines safe work procedures, defines employee responsibilities, and ensures workers and others are informed about asbestos hazards and how to control them. Central to this program is the Asbestos Inventory.

The Asbestos Inventory is a legally required document under WorkSafeBC (Sections 6.4–6.6) that lists all known, presumed, and suspect asbestos-containing materials in a building. It includes detailed information such as sample locations, asbestos type and percentage, material condition, and identifies any unsampled suspect materials that must be treated as asbestos-containing.

These tools serve to keep workers safe, ensure regulatory compliance, streamline renovation planning, and reduce liability for building owners and managers. EcoHazMat can produce specific pre-renovation reports directly from a full inventory—saving time and cost by eliminating the need for new sampling and site visits.

Mould & IAQ Assessments

EcoHazMat provides air monitoring during asbestos and lead abatement to ensure safe work procedures are followed and exposures remain below regulatory limits. Third-party sampling offers an added layer of quality control, protects building occupants, and ensures compliance with WorkSafeBC standards.

We also offer tailored mould assessments, designed to identify airborne spores, detect specific contaminants, or confirm whether visible staining is due to mould growth. Post-abatement air sampling can also be conducted to verify that remediation has been effective, providing confidence in the safety of the space.

Industrial Hygiene (CIH)

EcoHazMat provides Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) services to assess and manage workplace health risks. We evaluate exposures to airborne contaminants, noise, and other physical and chemical hazards to ensure they remain within safe and compliant limits.

Our work supports employers in creating safer, healthier environments through expert analysis, monitoring, and practical guidance. With a focus on prevention and regulatory compliance, we help organizations protect their workers and promote long-term well-being.

Safe Work Procedures

EcoHazMat empowers businesses and workers through tailored training and procedures that address the risks of hazardous materials and their impact on health and the environment. Our programs align with current OHS regulations and WorkSafeBC standards.

We develop custom Safe Work Procedures and education for working safely with asbestos, lead, mould, hantavirus, silica, and mercury. Additional services include respirator protection programs, fit testing, exposure control plans, and comprehensive document review.
